Baby development
Your baby at 9 weeks
This is the point when the embryo officially becomes a fetus. Your baby is looking more recognizably human now, even though the head still makes up a big part of the body.
Your body this week
What you might be feeling at 9 weeks
Symptoms may peak or begin to ease — both are normal. The placenta starts taking over hormone production around weeks 8-12, which can cause symptoms to fluctuate. If you wake up feeling better, that's your body adjusting, not a warning sign.

This is the week that catches a lot of moms off guard. You've been feeling awful for weeks, and then one morning you wake up and the nausea is just... gone. And instead of being relieved, you're terrified. I did this with my third pregnancy — I woke up feeling fine and immediately started panicking. What I learned is that around weeks 8 to 12, the placenta starts taking over hormone production, and symptoms can ease up. A good day is not a warning sign. Your body is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. If you're feeling better, let yourself feel better. You've earned it.

Common questions
9 weeks pregnant: your questions answered
My nausea is gone — is the baby okay? +
Around weeks 8-12, the placenta begins taking over hormone production, which can cause symptoms to ease. This is a normal transition. A good day doesn't mean something is wrong.
When does the risk of miscarriage decrease? +
After a confirmed heartbeat (usually visible by 8 weeks), the miscarriage rate drops significantly. By 9 weeks with a heartbeat, the risk is quite low.
