Pregnancy illustration for week 20 — baby Halfway there!

20 Weeks Pregnant: Halfway there!

Baby development

Your baby at 20 weeks

At this halfway point, your baby is very recognizable, with well-formed limbs and features. Many moms love this stage because baby is big enough to picture clearly but still has plenty of room to move around.

Your body this week

What you might be feeling at 20 weeks

Halfway there. Your belly is making its presence known. You might notice linea nigra (a dark line down your belly), skin changes, and more defined movement. The anatomy scan is usually this week. You might also start thinking about your birth plan.

From Shelbi

Shelbi Kohler · mother of seven · certified birth doula

Halfway. You're halfway. This is the week where I always paused with each of my pregnancies and just took a breath. You've made it through the hardest emotional part, and you have a real, visible bump now. The anatomy scan is usually this week or next, and I know the anxiety that comes with it. I've seen hundreds of these scans as a doula, and I've watched the relief wash over parents' faces when the technician says everything looks perfect. That's the most common outcome. If you're finding out the sex, savor that moment — it's one of the best surprises of your life, no matter what you're hoping for.
