37 Weeks Pregnant: Early term

Baby development

Your baby at 37 weeks

Your baby is considered early term now, and many important systems are very close to ready. Brain and lung development are still continuing, which is a helpful reminder that these last weeks still matter.

What you might be feeling at 37 weeks

Early term. You're technically ready but still waiting. Every cramp feels like the start. You might not sleep well, eat well, or move well — but you're almost there. If you haven't packed your bag yet, do it today.

You're now considered early-term, which means if you went into labor naturally, most providers wouldn't stop it. This is a strange limbo — you're technically ready, but you're also still waiting. With my first, I was so anxious at 37 weeks that I couldn't sleep. I'd lie in bed counting kicks and timing every Braxton Hicks, wondering if this was the night. It wasn't, for three more weeks. But the readiness is there now, and that's a relief even if the waiting is hard. If you haven't packed your bag yet, do it today. Not tomorrow. Today.
